Which states have a motorcycle lemon law?

Pennsylvania is the newest: since May 18, 2025, buyers of new motorcycles there can bring lemon law claims, per a summary of the amendment. Check your state below.

The limits

Where bikes are covered, the repair counts and windows usually match the state's car rules. A bike that stalls at speed is a safety defect, and safety defects often need fewer visits.

Dealers do not have to post a Buyers Guide on motorcycles, says the FTC. Keep the sales papers and the warranty booklet together.

The warranty route

The federal law covers any bike sold with a written warranty. If you win, the maker pays "court costs and reasonable attorneys' fees", per the FTC guide. See the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act page.

Questions owners ask

What if my state leaves motorcycles out?

A new bike with a written warranty is still covered by the federal warranty law, and an owner who wins can recover attorney fees under it.

Do used motorcycles count?

Rarely under state law. A used bike sold with a dealer warranty can still have a federal claim.

Do dealers post a Buyers Guide on motorcycles?

No. The FTC rule does not require one on motorcycles, so get any warranty promise in writing.

What to do now

The first thing to do is call, with every repair order for your motorcycle in hand. Each week you wait, you keep paying for a bike that sits in the shop instead of on the road.
